We appreciate every single one of the skilled trades that we have in our network. And because we are grateful that you put your trust in us, our support for you does not end when we find a job opportunity. We are on your side every step of the way. This begins when you first approach us either in person or over the phone.

Initial meeting

Every individual is far more than their CV, and that is why, whenever possible, we meet our candidates. There are two reasons for this, firstly it helps us to put a name to the CV so that we can build a relationship and establish more than the job you’re after. Secondly we build a picture of your skills and experience and hear what it is you want. By doing this, we understand you as a whole person and it might be from this conversation, we find you a better opening than the one you were considering.

Guidance on what you need to do

Once we’ve identified the vacancy that we feel best matches your skill set, we talk you through documents, you will need:

  • Up-to-date, CV
  • Completed the application form
  • Support with your cover letter
  • Evidence of Right to Work
  • Security clearance if appropriate

Pre-interview

Many of our clients in the shipbuilding sector have been working with us for several years and this means we know them inside out. It helps us to give you a clear picture before an interview of their expectations. This means we can walk you through everything from what to wear, what to expect on-site and how to present yourself in the best possible way to meet the client’s expectations.

Getting started

We know that job hunting can be hard work and we tell our clients that we insist on prompt post-interview communication. Therefore, even if you’re not successful, you know straight away and can focus your attention on a different opportunity. If you are offered a position, we will support you in terms of everything you would need before day one, and if it is a contract position how long this will last.

The good news is, once you are in the SLR world, we can be ready and waiting at the end of a contract to match you with another shipbuilding opportunity. We have relationships with shipbuilders up and down the UK in shipyards such as Falmouth and all the way up to Cammell Laird.

We know that our strength is in the incredibly skilled tradespeople who come to us for support in this ship-building career. We appreciate your trusting us, and we, therefore, make sure you feel valued and appreciated every step of the way.

If you are prepared to work hard and have the right skills and qualifications, then it could be time for you to join a rapidly growing and exciting sector. Check out our current vacancies or come and have a conversation with the team at our offices Monday – Wednesday.
